About

Croatian Statistical Association (CSA), founded in 2005, was activated at the beginning of 2015, in accordance to the Law on financial business and non-profit organizations, announced in October 2014 (Decision of the City Office for General Administration Zagreb and RNO form with RNO number 00333155). It’s goal is to promote the statistical literacy, profession and science, bringing together professionals and enthusiasts in their everyday work with the official statistics and methods of statistical analysis, using and developing them.

History and timeline of Croatian Statistical Association:

2005

1.In 2005Director General of the Croatian Statistical Bureau, Mr Jakov Gelo, PhD, initiated the founding of the new Croatian Statistical Association -CSA (Hrvatsko statističko društvo – HSD).

The presentation of the newly founded CSA was given at the 130th anniversary celebration of the CBS held in the Croatian Chamber of Economy.

In 2005 -The first President of the CSA was Mr Jakov Gelo, PhD, Director General of the CBS (and Full Professor in Demography, at the Department of Demography, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb).

 

2.In the period 2005 – 2015 the CSA was inactive.

 

2015

3.In 2015 – Director General of the Croatian Statistical Bureau, Mr Marko Krištof, initiated the refreshment of the activities of the CSA, with an imperative to adjust it to the current Law on Non-profits Organizations in Croatia (the law announced in October 2014: Zakon o udrugama, 06.06.2014; NN 074/2014). In February 2015, the CSA had its re-founding meeting.

In 2015 -The second President of the CSA was elected and it has been Mrs Ksenija Dumičić, PhD (Full Professor at the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb).

8.In 2016 – The CSA founded the first statistical conference in Croatia ISCCRO’16, fully named: The 1st International Statistical Conference in Croatia, 05-06 May 2016, Zagreb, Croatia; TOPIC: „New Challenges of Official and Applied Statistics in European Union. It attracted about 120 authors from 11 countries with 55 presentations.

At the ISCCRO’16, the following awards were established:
    ** The ISCCRO ’16 Best Conference Paper in the Special Session for Challenges of Official Statistics Award (At the ISCCRO-2016 it was awarded to: Petar Sorić, Mirjana Čižmešija, Ivana Lolić for the paper „The challenges of estimating monthly national accounts data in Croatia“
     ** The ISCCRO ’16 Best Special Session for Young Statisticians Paper Award were established, too. (It was not awarded in 2016).

At the ISCCRO’16, two publications were published: (1) the Book of Abstracts included 55 Abstracts, and (2) the CD with Proceedings of the ISCCRO Conference included 34 full scientific papers. The details of the respective publications of the ISCCRO-2016 are:

15.In February 2018: The CSA Section “Women in Statistics  was founded on 23 February 2018 (upon the CSA Steering Committee decision since 16 February 2018). ISCCRO’18 Photo Gallery

At the ISCCRO’18 in Opatija 188 authors, coming from 19 countries and Croatia, gave 100 submissions for presentation, half of them as Abstract Only and half of them as Full Papers, split in a variety of sessions in two parallel lines during two conference days of presentations, plus four of them being Invited Lectures. Croatian Statistical Association co-organized five Special Sessions, as follows: Spreading out Official Statistics in the Digital World, organized by Maja Pekeč from Croatian Bureau of Statistics; Econometric Modelling for Fiscal Policy Making in European Union Countries, chaired by Assistant Professor Irena Palić, PhD, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics and Business, Zagreb, Croatia; Economic and Social Effects of Demographic Trends, chaired by Professor Ana Štambuk, PhD, University of Rijeka, Faculty of Economics, Rijeka, Croatia; Recent Advances in Robust Statistics for High-dimensional Settings and Techniques for Handling Large Spatial Data, organized by Professor Taps Maiti, PhD, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, USA & Asuman S. Turkmen, Ohio State University, Newark, USA; and Quantitative Analysis for Faster Development of the South East European Countries, organized by Assoc. Professor Blagica Novkovska, PhD, from University of Tourism and Management in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. Croatian Statistical Association organized the Special Session Young Statisticians in Action, chaired by Professor Anamarija Jazbec, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Forestry and Professor Mirta Benšić, coming from J. J. Strossmayer University of Osijek, Deptartment of Mathematics, too.

The conference hosted the authors from Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Republic of Macedonia, Russian Federation, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom and USA.

At the ISCCRO’18, two publications were published
       *** “Proceedings of the ISCCRO – International Statistical Conference in Croatia”, Volume 2, No.1, 2018 (The 2nd International Statistical Conference in Croatia- ISCCRO18, 10-11 May 2018, Opatija, Croatia),  (Electronic ISSN: 1849-9872; CD), includes 24 selected full conference papers writen by the international authors with the share larger than 50%.
       *** “Book of Abstracts of the ISCCRO – International Statistical Conference in Croatia”, Volume 2, No.1, 2018 (The 2nd International Statistical Conference in Croatia-ISCCRO’18, 10-11 May 2018, Opatija, Croatia), (Online ISSN 2584-3850; Print ISSN 1849-9864), which contains four Plenary Speech abstracts and 96 contributed abstracts of the talks presented at the ISCCRO’18 Conference.

The International Scientific Program Committee, which is the Editorial Board of the ISCCRO’18, includes 118 scientists and professionals, from all over the World, 60% of them being from outside of Croatia. The ISCCRO’18 International Organizing Commetee is comprised of the statisticians from four countries: Croatia, Serbia, Republic of Macedonia and Slovenia, which is the proof of the international importance of the ISCCRO conference. The anonymous double-blind peer review by the two independent reviewers was applied to the all the papers. After the ISCCRO’18, special recognitions were given for outstanding contributions of the ISCCRO Scientific Committee members, presenters and organizers .
